New Fabric!

It's always new fabric time here at Quilt Play. Our most recently unpacked offerings include the richly textured solids from Blackbird Designs' Meadow collection in reds, blues, green, and neutrals. They coordinate beautifully with the cherries and dots from Brannock & Patek's Farmer's Market line. I see an apron, market tote, or wallhanging here.

The last couple weeks also brought us The Ghastlie Family Reunion in all their ghastlie glorious black, grey, mauve, and green. There is a pink from RJR's Once Upon a Time fabrics that just matches the cheeks of the Ghastlie children. Once Upon a Time is a mostly pink and grey set with a sweet woodland print for the modern baby girl or grownup.

Batiks! Hoffman blew me away by not only not being late, but by arriving on Monday, April 2, which means they actually shipped in March! Two dozen scrumptious batiks in colors like Coral Gables, Delft, Lupine, Hydrangea, Poppy, and Aspen.

Not to be outdone, Andover graced us with Jo Morton's Alexandria line, as well as a few bolts from Bridgeport. There are pink and blue almost pastels, red and black tiny checks, cheddar and green stripes, a wallpaper stripe, and many more from which to choose.

A bright spring/summer project could easily come together by combining Moda's Twirl, Maywood's Calypso, and Michael Miller's Ooh La la, and a gorgeous Asian quilt with richly detailed florals accented in gold may be conjured up by mixing Hoffman's Royal Gardens with Kaufman's Imperial Fusion.

For the Modern Quilter, we have solid charm squares and jelly rolls in single colors and assortments, as well as a handful of the new Michael Miller Couture Cottons and Moda Bella solids added to our table full of Kona solids.

BH & G's "All Small" magazine has been flying out the door. Stop in to see projects made from this varied assortment of patterns, from mini tote/gift bags to an appliqued baby quilt to a runner crafted from a bali pop.

Wooly Charms are here in just about every color of the rainbow and are great for applique or small projects like needle cases or pincushions. A tiny sampling of Cosmo embroidery floss has also taken up residence. For now we are focusing on reds and neutrals, but more colors may be added.

What did I tell you? MORE fabric came today before this was to be sent. From Japanese company Lecien, 10 bolts of Natalie Lymer's Woodland in aquas and reds with yellow and green accents. Adorable fairies and their little mushroom houses, just waiting to be made into something delightful!

Class

The Christmas Celebration Tree Skirt/Tablecloth class has ONE opening. It need not be done in Holiday colors at all, and none of us can imagine cutting a hole in the middle for a tree once it has been painstakingly paper pieced, but that's Judy Niemeyer's name for her pattern! This class meets for three hours on three Saturdays: May 5, May 19, and June 2, from 12:30 - 3:30 each time. Registration is $70 and the pattern is $25 and includes all the pre-printed paper needed for one project.

Please note: Quilt Play will be closed Sunday, April 8, 2012.

Stop in to see us soon, and please bring a show and tell if you'd like! We love to see what you are doing with our fabric. By the time you get here, I'll probably have more new fabric to pick from...

Sincerely,

Shelley MacGregor

Paper Piecing Classes

Quilt Play will be featuring two Judy Niemeyer paper piecing classes in the upcoming months. The classes will be taught by Jane Reents, whose beautiful samples are on display in the shop.

Mini Stars Table Runner is the entry level paper piecing class. Rotary cutting experience is necessary. It will meet for two 3 hour sessions, and there are two sections available. Section 1 meets on Tuesdays: 2/28 & 3/13, from 10:00am - 1:00pm
Section 2 meets on Saturdays: 3/17 & 3/31, from 12:30 -3:30

Christmas Celebration Tree Skirt/Table Cloth
This project is more challenging, and  best for those with a little experience in paper piecing The class meets three times with time in between for completing homework and to avoid holiday weekends. Classes meet on Saturdays: 5/5, 5/19 and 6/2, from 12:30 - 3:30.

Patterns are ready for purchase and there are supply lists for both classes. Please be aware our classroom is upstairs and typically several degrees warmer than downstairs, so wear layers!

New Fabric!

It always comes down to this, doesn't it? More new fabric! Although the majority of it is designed to keep our minds on spring and summer, there are a few great winter prints also. White on white snowflakes complement two different snowmobile prints, and there are frosty snow covered pines as well. Speaking of frost, Michael Miller's Fairy Frost has arrived in Snow, Ivory, and Onyx.

On to COLOR! Maywood's "Calypso" is so sunny, with a multi-colored large gingham  in pink, yellow, orange, cyan blue, green, and white. Coordinating prints feature birds and flowers and will cheer up any grey February day. The rainbow of colors and prints that make up "Stitch in Color" from Moda are even deeper and richer. There is a faux patchwork print from which all the coordinates flow. Deep aqua, berry, grass green, golden yellow and other brights are set off with a cool grey neutral.

Fresh and colorful continues with "Twirl" from Me & My Sister and super-kawaii-cute Japanese style prints from Trans-Pacific. There are gorgeous gold accented prints from Hoffman's "Passage to India" collection, built around a great peacock feather fabric. Finally, the newest batiks from Princess Mirah seem to mix and match with almost all of them!

Last but not least, we have specialty fabrics for St. Patrick's projects and even a bolt of yellow Peeps! And sneaking in just under the wire, we have charm packs and layer cakes in the upcoming Fig Tree collection, California Girl, and bolts from Moda's Reunion.

We also have new books, magazines, and patterns to get your creative juices flowing, so stop in soon!

Sincerely,

Out with the old, in with the new!
Quilt Play is full of new surprises! There are nearly two dozen new Hoffman batiks, nine new reproduction bolts from Jo Morton, new 1930s prints from Moda, a bright new kids' line called Jungle Buzz, and a colorful coffee themed line called Morning Rush from Andover. New Moda charm packs & jelly rolls include Twirl from Me & My Sister, A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrawsky, and Redwork Renaissance from Chloe's Closet. (Oh, we have a fresh bolt of those hunky firemen, perfect for a pillowcase!)

To make room, we need to clear out some of our other fabrics. From now until January 15th, take off $3/yard on Christmas, Fall, and Halloween fabrics. Minimum one yard cuts to receive the sale price.

Quilt Play will be closed on Sunday, January 1st, but open regular hours Saturday, December 31st (10 - 4) and Monday, January 2 (also 10 - 4).

While in the shop, take note of the Mini Stars runner and Christmas Celebration tree skirt/tablecloth. Jane Reents will be teaching classes on these paper-pieced beauties, so please leave your name and contact info so we can let you know when they are scheduled. The table runner will be a two part class; the tree skirt/tablecloth would take at least three classes with some homework in between, but when you see the finished project, you'll know it's worth it!

Have a safe and Happy New Year! Be sure to get supplies ready for at least a couple good projects, because the snow will come soon enough...
